I suddenly started getting an extra sound that I could hear about six months ago. My experience with a sometimes loud, sometimes soft hissing in my left ear turned out to be tight neck and shoulder muscles. I often have a white-noise-like sound in my ear without and apparent outer cause. I have it occasionally in my left ear (my good ear, tinnitus being permanent in the right ear). My symptom are a little hard to describe, but for the past couple months I have been getting what I can only describe as a popping noise in my ears. The noises that you hear in your ears are as a result of the fluid in the middle ear becoming thickened, usually as the result of a cough or cold. You should then blow one nostril at a time until there is nothing left to blow!
Each nerve hair is tuned to a particular frequency of sound and excites only certain neurons in the auditory cortex. The experience left him with partial hearing loss and a high-pitched ringing in his ears that plagued him for 40 years. My right ear has been ringing for the last couoke of days out of the blue. My husband has a constant buzz in his ears and also hears a sound he likens to a dishwasher running. Tinnitus can be caused by many things, including very loud noises. Cheryl, I have complete hearing loss in my left ear. Possible causes include ear infection, ear wax buildup, loud noises and side effects of certain medications. The eardrops I was using had caused my left ear canal to be inflamed.
